Glory City Church West (previously known as Rivers of Life Christian Church) together with its community arm Harvest Rain Christian Care acquired the former Tivoli Drive-In property in 2003 with a vision of redeveloping the property as a dynamic community facility.
Since that time, the Drive-In has become a centre for a wide range of community activities including:
- Community Literacy and Numeracy Classes (over 700 disadvantaged adults obtained life skills L&N tuition between 2003 and 2015)
*Employment Skills Training (with more than 300 unemployed people employed for between 16 and 22 weeks and receiving formal training in either landscaping, construction, hospitality or business and events management)
*Weekly Community Drive-In Movie Nights (now attracting around 75,000 people to the Drive-In per annum and providing employment and work experience for more than 200 young people since 2008)
*Emergency Relief Welfare Services providing emergency support and assistance to individuals and families in times of crisis
*Our “Healthy Hampers Food Co-Op” which provides food and grocery hampers to low income and battler households for a nominal handling cost – providing a much needed boost and support to around 1200 individuals and families.
In addition to these activities, the Church holds regular church services and other activities onsite at the property.
Tivoli Social Enterprises Limited was established by the church in 2008 to manage the social enterprise business elements of these activities and to manage the employment training projects. Currently Tivoli Social Enterprises Limited are managing two Queensland Government Skilling Queenslanders for Work “Work Skills Traineeship” programmes – providing employment skills training and work experience in construction for 24 unemployed people; and formal training and employment experience in business and events management for another 24 unemployed people.
